Congratulations to our newest Hawaiʻi NBCTs!

Open Letter to Our New NBCTs:

Congratulations on earning your National Board Certification! By achieving this milestone, you’ve demonstrated your commitment to the teaching profession and shown that you are an accomplished educator. We are so proud of you! I hope you’ve had a chance to celebrate and share your success on our Hawaii NBCTs Network Facebook page—our community is excited to welcome you to this new chapter.

If you haven’t yet, I’d like to invite you to join our local NBPTS network affiliate, Hawaii NBCTs. You can complete your application here: https://bit.ly/808nbcts.

We know you may have a few questions regarding reimbursement and the National Board Incentive.

FAQs: Reimbursement and National Board Incentive:

For Hawaii DOE Teachers:
The official report from NBPTS with your names has been sent to Melissa Huntley at the Hawaii Department of Education (Office of Talent Management). She will need you to complete a form for the incentive and reimbursement.

If you didn’t receive a scholarship or third-party payment, you are eligible for a $1,900 reimbursement. If you received a partial reimbursement in a previous year (e.g., $1,500), you’re eligible for the remaining $400. Please note that the DOE does not reimburse for retake costs or Maintenance of Certification fees.

The National Board Incentive is processed through the DOE for payroll. In past years, the first payroll increase has typically been reflected between February and April, and should be retroactive to the date of certification.

For Public Charter and Independent School Teachers:
Please check directly with your school administrator or HR office, as the process may vary by institution.

If you have any questions or need further assistance, please don’t hesitate to reach out. Weʻre here to help and will do our best to provide answers. Once again, congratulations on this monumental achievement in your professional journey!
